Sandwell Community Fire Bikes

Sandwell have identified an opportunity to provide prevention based activity on cycles whilst engaging with the community during profiled Fire Safety sessions in Sandwell.

The project has been extended from the pilot in Birmingham to provide the service as part of our mainstream activity. The teams will be lead by two Watch Commanders who will be responsible for deploying the teams of cyclists across Sandwell. The teams will initially be based at West Bromwich and Oldbury, but will work throughout the Sandwell Command area.

The teams will deliver the following work:

  • Delivery of targeted initiatives in hot spot areas throughout Sandwell
  • Delivering and generating Home Fire Safety Checks
  • Completing Site Risk Surveys and working with the business community
  • Engaging with young people, promoting the Young Firefighters Association (YFA) and Youth Services
  • Identifying and reporting void properties
  • Identifying and reporting fly tipping
  • Work closely with our partners, Community Safety Officers (CSO’s) and Neighbourhood Wardens

Much of the work carried out by the teams will be targeted towards supporting our partner agencies as well as first and second generation Local Area Agreement targets for fire reduction. The work the teams do will contribute to the Sustainable Community Strategy and the attainment of targets associated with the suite of national indicators
