Sandwell Stations In The Community

What Do Sandwell Fire Stations do in the Community?

Sandwell Fire Stations are committed to provide prevention based activity to the community.

All 6 stations provide the following services in our community:

• Young People and the Fire Service: West Midlands Fire Service is involved in a number of initiatives involving young people from the local community including the Young Firefighters’ Association, ‘Your Choice on the Road’ and the Sandwell Action Squad.
• Home Fire Safety Checks (HFSC’s): During the period April 2008 - March 2009 the 6 Fire Stations across Sandwell are committed to the completion of 6,000 HFSC’S, 50% of which will be in our most vulnerable areas.
• West Midlands Fire Service want to prevent dwelling fires. To help us achieve this, apply for your free Home Fire Safety Check today. Contact us on 0800 389 5525 or book an appointment on-line to arrange for us to visit your home to give you home fire safety advice.
• School Visits: All Key Stage 2, Year 5 primary schools pupils have a visit from the local firefighters. They deliver the SPARX fire safety education program.
• Schools Quiz: The West Midlands Fire Service schools quiz is supported in Sandwell. Sandwell Fire Stations hold local heats with the winners representing Sandwell at the regional final.
• Site Risk Surveys: Firefighters are frequently inspecting local businesses to educate themselves on the risks within Sandwell. This risk information is shared with firefighters across the West Midlands metropolitan district.
• Training: Firefighters are regularly involved in training to ensure relevant skills in dealing with emergency situations are constantly maintained to a high standard
• Community Fire Safety Campaigns: Firefighters support fire safety campaigns. Campaigns can be created and marketed by the government such as ‘Fire Kills’ or locally such as ‘Candle Safety’
• Community Fire Bikes: Sandwell Fire Officers are able to provide preventative advice and further engage with the community as part of the Sandwell Community Fire Bikes scheme.
