

The map below (Accidental Dwelling Fires) is used by each of the commands to target Home Fire Safety Checks. To create these maps we use demographic data and data collected from previous accidental dwelling fires to look at the type of people who are more likely to have a fire, particularly a severe fire, and map where they live within the borough. This means that we can direct our resources to the most vulnerable groups.
The small coloured areas are lower super output areas. Lower super output areas are a set of geographies developed after the 2001 census. They are an aggregation of smaller areas with similar social characteristics.
The coloured lower super output areas are those that are more likely to be at risk from an accidental dwelling fire. These vulnerable areas are also split into the 1st highest risk group, the 2nd highest risk group etc…

The following map illustrates the location of non domestic fires during the financial year, April 2007 - March 2008, within the command area.
The smaller areas, defined by a thinner black line, are lower super output areas. Lower super output areas are a set of geographies developed after the 2001 census. They are an aggregation of smaller areas with similar social characteristics.
The lower super output areas are coloured in relation to the numbers of non domestic fires they have experienced within the last financial year.

The map below (Sandwell Arson Vehicle Fires Map) shows concentrations of arson vehicle fires within the Sandwell Command area.
West Midlands Fire Service is committed to reducing all incident types. As part of that commitment, Sandwell Fire Service is trying to reduce the occurrence of vehicle arsons in 2008/9 that will further build on the -5% reduction achieved in 2007/8 (when compared to 2006/7).
