Primary Targeted Performance Indicators
Year after year we continue to meet our targets for reducing fires and injuries from fires. Below are some of our current primary targeted performance indicators. This work is also carried out in conjunction with our community partners.
- Reduce vehicle arson by 5%
- Reduce arson secondary fires by 5%
- Ensure that working smoke alarms are fitted in at least 40% of homes who experience a fire.
- Reduce injuries from accidental dwelling fires by 7%
- Reduce accidental dwelling fires by 10 %
Prevention Based Activity Initiatives
Here are just a few of our prevention based initiatives within Central Birmingham,
- Hodge Hill building watch - securing void premises to reduce instances of arson.
- Red hot fire experience - Schools within the Sheldon area are being transported to our red hot fire experience in Handsworth to be educated in all aspects of fire safety in the home.
- An initiative being undertaken by the firefighters within Aston area is to drive down fires involving high rise properties where they are considered to be at a higher risk.
- In the Hay Mills area, firefighters are targeting specific high risk housing areas where there is a greater potential for fire and carrying out as many home fire safety checks as possible.
- Vehicle arson task group - involved in target hardening work to secure open land and joint operations such as ‘Cubit’ to crush abandoned vehicles.
