Vij Randeniya OBE, Chief Fire Officer for West Midlands Fire Service, started his firefighting career in London in 1983, transferring to Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service in 1999 as a Senior Divisional Officer. He joined West Midlands Fire Service as Assistant Chief Fire Officer in 2001. He was appointed Deputy Chief Fire Officer in 2004 and became Chief Fire Officer in 2009. He is aged 50.
Councillor David Hinton has been elected as the Chairman of West Midlands Fire & Rescue Authority. Councillor Hinton, who represents Tividale on Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, said I’m obviously delighted and humbled to have been re-elected as the Chairman of West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority, and I look forward to playing my part in helping create a world class Fire Service here in the West Midlands.
