

Vij Randeniya OBE, Chief Fire Officer for West Midlands Fire Service, started his firefighting career in London in 1983, transferring to Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service in 1999 as a Senior Divisional Officer. He joined West Midlands Fire Service as Assistant Chief Fire Officer in 2001. He was appointed Deputy Chief Fire Officer in 2004 and became Chief Fire Officer in 2009. He is aged 49.
Councillor Tony Ward has been elected as the Chairman of West Midlands Fire & Rescue Authority. Councillor Ward, who represents the Charlemont with Grove Vale Ward on Sandwell Council said "I am very pleased to have been elected as Chairman. I hope to carry on the good work of the previous Chairman and take the Brigade forward to achieve all of its goals.
I am looking forward to the responsibilities and challenges that come with this role and am confident that we can build on the successes already achieved by West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority and all those who work for it, and provide the best possible service to the communities we serve.”
