Our Expertise…
The West Midlands Fire Service Academy has a full time Hazardous materials and CBRNe terrorism training team offering theoretical and practical training to the CLG National, Tactical and Strategic Guidance standards. Our facilities allow us to construct scenarios in city centre, suburban and rural backgrounds using a range of simulation props including Heavy Goods Vehicles and Aircraft.
CBRN Training
Using MD1 mass decontamination structures we offer training from small group simulation scenarios to major multi-appliance exercises, including multi-agency scenarios. We offer the entire range of training from recruit through crew, watch and silver manager. Specialist instructors offer explosive training, DIM assessment and DIM continuation training.
Hazardous Materials
We provide theoretical and practical courses from introduction to hazardous materials to major multi appliance exercises, including multi-agency awareness training, all to the National Guidance standards. Our extensive range of equipment provides hands-on training from the identification of asbestos samples through the use of radiation detection equipment and the use of Personal Protective Equipment to all-up exercises utilising DIM and IRU vehicles. We train with the most current procedures and specialist methods to ensure participants carry out their roles on the incident ground efficiently and effectively, while using safe systems of work in order to minimise the risk to personnel, communities and the environment.
