Special Educational Needs

Additionally trained firefighters provide fire safety activities and sessions specially tailored to the needs of groups with Special Educational Needs. These are known as SEN Educators.

The groups could be

  • children within Special Schools, SEN groups within mainstream schools
  • young people in Colleges, or activity groups, preparing for independent living
  • adults in residential care, day care centres, etc.

All activities are selected by the teacher/group leader and then adapted as requested. These are selected from a catalogue and include:

  • What is fire?
  • Good and bad fires
  • Bag of hazards
  • Spot the hazards
  • Getting warm
  • What do firefighters wear
  • Exploring the fire engine
  • Firefighters for a day
