The Fire Service deals with fire, road and rail accidents, chemical hazards and many other situations where its expertise and equipment can be used to save lives, reduce suffering or protect property and the environment.
Our fire appliances provide cover 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. To ensure we have enough resilience to cover the increased risk during the daytime extra appliances are avaliable.
We also have dedicated vehicles for responding to minor fires (Targeted Response Vehicle) along with units that provide specialist equipment enabling firefighters to deal with incidents such as environmental, water incidents and large scale incidents requiring heavy duty rescue equipment.
Our resources are strategically placed to meet demand across the West Midlands area so that we can achieve our response standards. We constantly monitor how we respond to fires and other emergencies. We also consider the scale and nature of events that we may have to respond to in the future. As part of this process we review the number and location of our fire engines and fire stations. We also examine the range of skills our firefighters need to function safely and effectively.
