The Coalition Government has asked Central Government and Local Authorities to become more transparent and begin publishing information about itself. Their view is that this will lead to improvements in accountability and encourage the nation’s armchair auditors to hold authorities to account for the way they spend public money.
As part of this initiative, Authorities are required to produce information on the salaries of their Senior Officers. This is already included within the Statement of Accounts but now needs to be extended to include their names.
In order to comply with the requirements of the guidance, the information that follows uses, as a reference point, a snap shot of the organisation as at 1/10/2010 and includes only the gross pay.
The guidance indicates that this piece of work is not a one off exercise and therefore will need repeating on a regular basis
Wider Context
If a reader is to understand the information being presented to it, they need to have an appreciation of the wider context affecting the organisation. To this end the guidance requires the WMFS to include some contextual information
such as a description of what it does, total spend, budget responsibility, job descriptions and person specifications.
Some of this information is already published within other areas of the web site – please see the Annual Report and the Statement of Accounts. The other contextual information is shown below:-
