The Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) framework undertaken by the Audit Commission was abolished in May 2010. Following on from this the Government announced that the Audit Commission was to be disbanded.
External assessment is important as it provides an independent assurance to the public in respect of our performance and helps us to demonstrate that we are providing a value for money service.
The Audit Commission is currently working with the Government and other key organisations to help them design and introduce new arrangements for external assessment. It is expected that a new method for the effective audit and assessment of all public services will be in place from the 2012/2013 financial year.
It has been confirmed that the Audit Commission will continue to provide an assessment of our performance for the financial year 2011/2012 and is expected to close in December 2012.
