Safeside Volunteer Opportunities

Safeside is a state of the art, scenario-based, experiential learning safety complex that will provide an innovative, interactive, enjoyable learning experience that inspires people to think and act safely. This is a new facility that is currently being completed and will open in the 2008 Autumn Term.

As a Visitor Guide you will receive full training and support to enable you to guide visitors around the interactive safety scenarios. Each visit lasts approx 2.5 hours and you will be allocated a small group of up to 6 visitors for this period. The main visitor groups from September 2008 will be primary school children during weekday daytimes. From January 2009 groups of young people, vulnerable adults and older people will visit Safeside so visitor guides will also be required for evenings and weekend visitor groups.

No qualifications are required to be a visitor guide. However you will need to be a good communicator; possess or would like to develop customer care skills; enjoy working in a team environment; enjoy working with the general public, especially children; be adaptable to working with a variety of visitor groups.

All volunteers will receive necessary training before being able to guide visitors. This training is likely to be 1.5 days in duration and will include Safeside Induction, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Child Protection.

Safeside welcomes applications from disabled volunteers and the facility has full disabled access.

Volunteers will be provided with uniform and out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Safeside is based at the new West Midlands Fire Service Headquarters. The address is:
