Calendar of Events

At West Midlands Fire Service we are striving to achieve a workforce that reflects the diversity of the West Midlands.

We attend careers events at various locations, where our recruitment team is available to give advice and answer any questions you may have.

Awareness Evenings.

Held on a monthly basis and open to both people from black and ethnic minority groups, and women. The evenings are part of our positive action work to encourage candidates from under represented groups. At the evening you will gain an insight into the role of a firefighter and the selection process. To be invited to the evening then please call Kevin Riley on 0121 380 6222 or Jason Earl on 0121 380 6210 or kevin.riley@wmfs.net / jason.earl@wmfs.net

Access Course for the Fire Service.

The course concentrates on the skills, qualities and attributes required by the firefighter selection process and aims to improve the chances of candidates making successful applicants. Guidance on how to complete an application form, how to deal with written tests, how to prepare for the practical tests and interview tips are all covered during the course. The total cost of the course is £150. There are no remission fees and all students must pay the fee.

The courses are held in both the Wolverhampton and Birmingham areas, and are run on Saturdays during the day and also Monday and Wednesday evenings.

To find out more information please contact College Direct on 01902 836000 or Sila Patel / Ken Lloyd on 01902 821506 or for more information on pre recruitment courses please view their website.

Please note that attending a course at Wolverhampton College may assist you in preparing for the firefighter recruitment process but does not guarantee your success. West Midlands Fire Service supports the access courses at Wolverhampton College by providing them with up to date information about the stages of the firefighter recruitment process. Ideally you would attend the pre-recruitment access course prior to applying to West Midlands Fire Service but it is also acceptable to attend the course whilst going through the selection process (Wolverhampton College will advise you further on this).
